Application range of zirconia ceramic structural parts: What is Zirconia?

Zirconium oxide is a natural mineral raw material of zirconium oxide, mainly including baddeleyite and zircon.


Zircon is a kind of light yellow, brown-yellow, yellow-green, and other plutonic igneous minerals. Specific gravity 4.6-4.7, hardness 7.5, and strong metallic luster can be used as raw materials for ceramic glaze. Zirconium oxide is the principal oxide of zirconium.


Usually, it is a white, odorless, tasteless crystal. Insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid, and dilute sulfuric acid. usually contain a small amount of hafnium dioxide. Its chemical properties are not active, high melting point, high resistivity, high refractive index, and low coefficient of thermal expansion characteristics make it become an important high-temperature resistant material, ceramic insulation material, and ceramic sunscreen. Its hardness is second only to diamond.

Characteristics of Zirconia:

1. the melting point of the high melting point zirconia is 2715 c. The high melting point and chemical inertness make zirconia a good refractory.

2. High hardness, and good wear resistance, Zirconia ceramics have higher hardness and better wear resistance. From the specific data, the Mohs hardness of zirconia ceramics is about 8.5, very close to sapphire 9, while polycarbonate is only 3.0, tempered glass 5.5, aluminum-magnesium alloy 6.0, Corning Glass 7.

3. Low Thermal Conductivity and Low Expansion Coefficient Zirconia has a low thermal conductivity (1.6- 2.03 W/(m.k)) among common ceramic materials and a thermal expansion coefficient close to that of metals. therefore, zirconia ceramic is suitable for the structural ceramic material, such as the appearance structural member of the zirconia ceramic mobile phone.

2, can do zirconia mold, watch case and strap, micro fan axis, fiber pin, drawing die and cutting tools, wear-resistant tools, and other room temperature wear-resistant parts.


3, excellent high-temperature resistance, can be used as an induction heating pipe, refractory, heating elements.


4. Zirconia ceramic structural parts have sensitive electrical performance parameters and can be used in oxygen sensors, solid oxide fuel cells, and high-temperature heating elements.
